MUSIC
Since the beginning, Advances in Care has featured incredible physicians from NewYork-Presbyterian, Columbia & Weill Cornell Medicine telling the stories of their most cutting edge medical achievements. And typically, those stories start and end the same way: with a patient.
Dr. Petit: Like everything in medicine, there’s always patients that stand out.
Dr. Chan: …the patient could leave the hospital walking…to get them back their quality of life so quickly was just so amazing to me that I thought spinal surgery was one of the coolest things in neurosurgery.
Dr. Liston: It's not an exaggeration to say that almost all of the questions we ask in the lab stemmed in some way from some experience that I had with a patient.
MUSIC FLOURISH
I’m Catherine Price, host of Advances in Care. Over the past year, this show has featured doctors pushing the boundaries of medical treatment to improve patient outcomes. We’ve covered breakthroughs like using gene therapy to treat parkinsons, improving cardiac care through artificial intelligence and operating on one of the youngest patients to ever receive an artificial heart.

Advances in Care continues to release groundbreaking stories from the physicians who make NewYork-Presbyterian a leader in research, medical innovation and compassionate patient care.
Whether they’re using robotics to advance minimally invasive surgeries, or finding effective treatments for previously terminal pediatric diseases, these physicians aren’t afraid to take on some of the most complex challenges in medicine today.
Dr. Goffman: This is probably one of the most frequent emails or phone calls I get is “I heard you have this manual. Can you share it? At least show us your table of contents? Because we're intrigued.”
Dr. Gaudino: I was really shocked when I realized that we don't know anything about bypass surgery in women. So we need the trial dedicated to women and that's what we have been working on for the last couple of years.
Dr. Petit: If you believe patients with your disease are doing poorly and will do poorly, that’s exactly what you’ll find. But if you believe that they can do better and they should do better. You’ll probably be part of the team that
